Crackle Nail Polish: the new Look of Shattered Polish on Nails

If you are passionate about nail polishes and try out every new trend, you must have noticed the current rage for crackle nail polish. Just what it is and why is everywoman going gaga over this kind of nail polish? If you looked at the posters of crackle nail polish on the net, you must have been curious to see the top coating coming off from the base coat and giving an antique look as if the nail polish is peeling and is in bad shape. Thus it is an attempt to present not a uniform glowing color on nails but a color that looks similar to color peeling off a wall. Though crackle nail polish was seen earlier in the nineties, it did not create such a craze among women world over as it is doing now. Today, more companies are manufacturing crackle nail polish and millions are making this pattern on their nails trying to create a worn out look n their nails.

It is easy to apply and create the effect of crackle though it requires application of two colors, the base color, and then the contrasting top color that creates the effect of crackle. Make sure to choose the contrasting color wisely as greater the contras, greater is the crackle effect. Apply a coat of the base color and let it dry just like you do with any nail polish. Now apply the brighter color nail polish, also called the crackle color in a thin coat that cracks up to show the base color from beneath and the effect reminds one of an old wall where color comes off in the form of cracks. Thinner coat of crackle color causes a higher number of cracks though a thicker coat results in lesser but more well defined cracks.

Good thing about crackle nail polish is that despite having to buy two colors that are contrasting, they cost just as much as a good quality single nail polish. But they have a drawback in that both the base color as well as crackle color peel off rather easily implying one needs to carry these colors with her all the time, especially when going out to attend a function. Better still, as these colors are flaky, carry a transparent coat with yourself to avoid the embarrassment of cackle effect wearing off in front of friends.

Two companies that have introduced their crackle nail polish range around the same time in the beginning of 2011 are China Glaze and OPI. China Glaze calls its range crackle while OPI prefers to refer to its range as shatter. While China Glaze introduced 6 colors in the beginning and later complimented them with another 6 colors, OPI has released two colors at a time with one of the two colors being the base colors. Crackle nail polish is however not limited to these two brands and there are dozens of other companies making interesting colors to be used by ladies around the world.
