Matte Nail Polish: Not Every Woman likes Shiny or Glossy Finish
Whether it is apparels, appliances, gadgets, photos, or even wall colors, there is one category that is called matte finish. Matte finish is loved by people who found glossy finish in cabinets of TV’s and computers, even mobiles obnoxious. Similarly, when it comes to nail varnish or nail polish, there are some women who disagree with the majority of women and prefer to make use of matte nail polish that is not glossy or shiny but rather has a dull finish. These nail polishes look very smooth but surprisingly have no gloss.
For centuries, nail polishes remained glossy as they were considered superior and being able to catch the attention of those around, especially opposite sex. However, like all products mentioned above, matte finish beauty products used by women appeared in the market in the 2nd half of 20th century and soon became popular as they gave a different and dramatic look to the women using them. Today there are all kinds of shades that are available in cosmetics especially lipsticks and nail polishes. One drawback with matt nail polish is their tendency to chip off in a short time period which is what forces the user to apply new coats to keep these polishes intact and presentable. To prevent early chipping, experts suggest applying a base coat of a shiny nail polish before applying the matte nail polish. However, if the base nail polish does not dry quickly and one applies a quick drying matte nail polish over it, the nail polish may not dry up easily causing a lot of irritation.
Matt nail polishes staged their comeback a few years ago when they were lapped up by teens and celebrities who had a desire to look different from the majority. The first company to reintroduce matt nail polish was OPI that created shades like grey, black, brown, purple, coffee etc that were without any shine but still looked ravishing on the nails of women using them. Millions started to use these matte finish nail polishes but the trend of these nail polishes did not last long. Surprisingly, there are very few women still making use of these matte nail polishes.
Probably the reason for the ouster of matte nail polishes from the market was that they looked horrible on long nails while women tend to grow their nails than their normal size. A vast majority of females love to keep long nails and when they used matt nail polishes, they found that instead of looking more attractive, men got repulsed by these dark nail polishes. Another factor that contributed to the ouster of the trend of matte nail polishes is that they wee available in a limited number of colors and texture was always the same.
Still, there are faithful who prefer to stick with matte nail polishes and companies making these nail polishes have introduced new technologies, and of course shade, to keep up the interest of women alive.
